Unfortunate Change of Plans...

Where to begin.... I wish I had a more "pretty" or "eloquent" way of saying it but cancer is ugly so it doesn't deserve it.
My daughters cancer has gotten worse
There, I said it. And feel free to add any choice swear words to that unfortunate statement. Yes, I'm afraid our current doctor determined in this mornings exam that the tumor seeds are spreading/growing/multiplying....... Whatever.... They are not responding as they should and he is referring us to a new doctor because he no longer feels confident in treating her. I'm not mad at him for passing us along. I'm mad at this wretched cancer.
Today's appointment was cut short due to his findings so she had no chemotherapy done today. We are home resting and digesting this new news. I have connected with our new retinoblastoma specialist in Philidelphia and most likely will be bringing Ania out there very very soon ( a matter of days). We will talk about what our new course of action will be. We will weigh those options and decide if we should go forward with a new treatment plan or perhaps just enucleate (remove) the eye and be done with this whole cancer "adventure" in one fell, extreme swoop.

Our beautiful, strong, & inspiring child. Your daddy and I love you so much and want nothing more than to see you well.

I don't know what else to say right now other than pray Hard. Pray that we are being put in the right hands. Pray that we make the best decision for our daughter. Pray for Ania. Pray for me. Pray for her Daddy. Pray for our family. Just pray....

God Bless,

Erica ( Ania & family too!)

  1. Hi Erica,

My name is Courtney. I am in Britton's sisters (Channing) Bible study group. I wanted you to know that we are all praying for you and your sweet baby girl. I wanted to share a song with you that is so dear to my heart. I hope you can find comfort in the words of this song. Ania will continue to be in our hearts.

I am so sorry you didn’t get good news today. I will be praying for these new doctors, that they will find the best treatment for Ania. I will be praying for all of you as you embark on this new stage in your journey. Prayers for health, peace, and good treatment options.

  5. I'm so sorry you're in this position. I have known someone since college who lost an eye to this cancer. He's led a long healthy life without the eye and has done everything he wanted to do in life. I pray that you don't have to go there, but I just thought I'd share a positive story, just in case.

  7. Hi Erica,
Im sorry to hear this. My family and i are going through the same thing right now. My dads oncologist already gave my dad every possible chemo drug there is available to him, but unfortunately we had no luck yet. My dad has consulted with different oncologist and specialist here in america. Hes been to Mayo clinic, a specialist in boston,U of I, Swedish Covenant, and MD Anderson which is suppose to be the best in oncology. My dads doctor said last year that my dad will slowly deteriorate by march 2014.
I may not know how painful it is for you as a mother, but as a daughter with a father that has cancer... it is.
I will keep ania, u and your family in prayers..
Just keep fighting for her and stay strong no matter what..
    God Bless...

  8. Ania, You are a beautiful little girl. Whatever path you are given to walk, don't be afraid. You'll always be beautiful. Your mother, father and family love you very much and they are doing everything they can to help you.
Erica, Keep fighting and don't despair. You may have to chase this cancer away over a long journey. If you need help don't be shy to ask. You love your daughter and there is nothing better for Ania than that. Your precious little girl will be in my prayers. God bless her and all of you.
